Overview

The Self-Service Monitoring Portal addresses two important use cases around the configuration of monitoring in BMC TrueSight and BMC Helix Operations Management.

1.       Ability to report on monitoring configurations. Using the Self-Service Monitoring Portal, you can easily build, execute and schedule reports of the current monitoring configuration, based on any dimension (device,…) that is relevant to you.

2.       Ability to configure and apply monitoring configurations without interacting directly with the TrueSight or BHOM Central Monitoring Administration (CMA) console.

How it works

Reporting

The Self-Service Monitoring Portal uses REST API calls (and PostgreSQL database queries when using TrueSight Presentation Server)  to build a consolidated repository of monitoring objects and configurations. Devices, monitored instances, thresholds, repository information and more are stored in a local PostgreSQL database. Based on this repository, reports can be easily built.

Monitoring configuration

The Self-Service Monitoring Portal uses the reporting repository as well as a user-defined Monitoring Catalog to provide a simple interface for authorized users to manage monitors and thresholds in the BMC  monitoring environment. ProactivePack Host Groups and Monitoring Policies are translated into BMC  CMA Infrastructure Policies so that BMC  agents can be configured as required.
